I had the great honor of photographing the wedding of Casey Comstock and Trent Mills in Sierra Madre, CA a few weeks ago. The ceremony and reception took place at the Lavender Marketplace. A dreamlike property filled with cottages, intoxicating flowers and gardens that transported every guest into another world. The wedding was intimate in every way from start to finish and Casey and Trent left no stone unturned. Since both Casey and Trent share an affinity for theater, the arts in general, music and reading, the wedding details included library cards with each guests name on it, readings from infamous bodies of works as well as a chapter number and a meaningful quote in place of a typical table number.

This garden wedding had an etherial quality to it as well as a laid back and playful vibe which truly reflected the couple as a whole in every way. The bride got ready in the Rose Cottage on the property with her mother and best friends assistance. The bride wore blue on the soles of her feet and a headpiece in her hair that reminded me of “A Midsummers Nights Dream”. Her dress fit her like a glove in both style and color as the under-layer of the fabric matched her skin perfectly, creating this illusion her actual skin but exuded nothing short of total class.  Her father walked her down the aisle while Trent held back a flood of tears watching his soon to be wife walking towards him. If this wasn’t enough to make the entire congregation weep, the couple went a step further and provided a hand write love note to each and every guest letting them know why they were so important in there lives and what it meant to them having them in attendance. They created time in the middle of the ceremony for everyone to pause and read their own letter. It was  one of the most poiniant, remarkable and beautiful moments I have ever witnessed at a wedding. Wedding days are usually about the bride and the groom only, but taking this time to make sure each guest knew what their presence meant to them was the kind of special touch one can only create in a gathering as intimate as theirs and was a true reflection of the kind of people Casey and Trent are.
