Childhood Unplugged – June Edition 2016

Memorial Day Weekend has always been our kick off to summer! And summer time is my favorite time of year… Since we are expecting our third child in less than 6 weeks we aren’t traveling very far this summer. I was feeling a bit sad about not heading to Long Beach Island or to our friends house where we usually celebrate Memorial Day weekend. But to my shock and amazement our new town has proven to surprise us at every turn with all their is to do! It’s everything we would ever need and more! The town, the people, the social events and the community have welcomed us with open arms and this weekend we spent the whole 5 days off having fun “in our own backyard”. I photographed my kids at the local Memorial Day picnic, thrown by the town’s fire department which was so much fun for the kids and the grown ups alike! With delicious BBQ for everyone, juicy watermelon, pink lemonade and frozen ice pops there was more than enough summer grub to make this pregnant lady happy. They had game after game for the kids including tug of war, potato sack races, the three legged race, and the cha cha slide. My oldest did the three legged race with one of her classmates and the smile on her face was so pure and so beautiful I couldn’t get enough! After the yummy food, the games and the laughs, the firemen who throw the event let the children come check out the inside of the truck.

When the event was close to finishing the fire trucks made sure to end it with a bang! They turned on their hoses and watered down every willing participant! The water was a site to see in and of itself and the kids LOVED every second of it. We are making memories and growing roots in a place that I truly feel like we belong and it is such a gift. I am feeling humbled and blessed these days.
